The Holland programme for co-operation will grant NLG 60 million to Bulgaria in 1997. With a part of this money will be constructed a new passenger terminal at the Sofia Airport.

The net profit of "Sofia Airport" for 1996 is in the amount of BGL 567,91 million, said the Executive Director of the airport Danyo Adanev. The company does not have debts to the budget and the banks. The debts of "Balkan" air-lines and "Hemus Air" to the airport are in the amount of BGL 830 million.

The Kuwait Fund for an Investment Development will grant a loan in the amount of USD 129 million for the reconstruction of Sofia Airport. The Ministry of Transport prepared the project and Bulgarian "Glavbogarstroy" JSC will execute it.

The Council Of Ministers approved the reconstruction project of Sofia Airport in the amount of XEU 123 million. The Cabinet will ask a mandate from the Parliament for negotiations with the European Investment Bank for a loan in the amount of XEU 60 million. The amount of 50 million have been expected from the Kuwaiti Investment Fund and the amount of XEU 25 million under the PHARE program for the airport's reconstruction.

The Sofia City Council purchased 17 per cent from the shares of "Company of Sofia Airport Development" JSC from "Glavbolgarstroy" JSC for the amount of BGL 9.520 million. The third company's shareholder is "Sofia Airport" JSC. The company's General Meeting took a decision to increase its capital from the BGL 56 million up to the amount of BGL 114 million. German concern "Siemens" purchased the total new emission in the amount of BGL 58 million and was included as company's shareholder.

The Minister of Transport appointed Mr. Zdravko Velichkov General Manager of Sofia Airport in the place of Mr. Danio Adanev. The members of the Board of Directors were decreased from seven down to five, as Mr. Petko Tabov is appointed Chairman.

German company "Simex" became a shareholder in "Company of Sofia Airport's Development" as holds 50.88 per cent from its capital. It was done through company's capital increase from BGL 56 million up to the amount of 114 million. The all shares from the new emission are bought from "Simex. The other two company's shareholders are Sofia Municipal and Sofia Airport.

The government approved a contract with European Investment Bank for a loan of XEU 60 million for reconstruction and modernization of airport "Sofia" SPJSC. The reconstruction will cost USD 120 million.

Sofia Airport serviced 2978 planes in September. 1666 of them were on international lines and 412 - on internal. The passengers were 108,818, 99,949 of them passed on international lines and 9869 - on internal. The loads were 1003 tones.

"Vereinsbank" (Germany) agreed to finance the repairs of Sofia Airport, said the Mayor of Sofia, Mr. Stefan Sofianski. There is an agreement with the bank for a credit of USD 20 - 30 million. USD 140 million are necessary for the first stage of reconstruction.

A Law on ratification of the financial contract among Bulgaria, European Investment Bank and "Sofia Airport" SPJSC was promulgated in "The State Gazette". The contract provides for ECU 60 milion for reconstruction of "Sofia Airport" JSC.

The Council of Ministres will ratify the agreement with Kuwaiti Investment Fund for the loan in the amount of USD 40 milliom. The loan is allocated for a repair of Sofia Airport. According to the preliminary agreement the payment of the loan will begin a year after the finishing of the reconstruction.
