This year direct foreign investments from privatization will amount to USD 600 million, according to pr the Agency for Foreign Investments. Foreign investments in telecommunications are expected to amount to USD 60 million in 2000 and to USD 100 million in 2001.

Six new terminals will be built in Varna port to 2005, stated the Director of the port Mr. Stoian Shtupf. In the terminal for chemicals that has been already developed in cooperation with Oil tanking, will be invested DEM 93 million. To June 15 will be registered a joint-venture company with the owner of Devnia ciment - Mr. Italchimente for a quay with a value of USD 7 million.

The USA Agency for Trade and Development has so far financed Bulgarian transport projects for USD 8 831 070 after the Initiative for Development of the Southern Balkans. The USA Government is financing project in Bulgaria, Macedonia and Albania, announced the Minister of Transport and Communications Mr. Antoni Slavinski.12 projects are being carried out with the money granted to Bulgaria.

15 234 t wheat from the new harvest are exported from Balchik port to Ukraine and Georgia. Another 6 361 t are exported to Romania. According to traders the exported quantities are rather insufficient for the abilities of Dobrich region. The export is limited because there is not an adequate price for the grain.

American companies have shown interest in the building of the second Dounav bridge at Vidin-Kalafat, was announced by the Minister of Transport of Communications Mr. Antoni Slavinski at his return from Philadelphia yesterday (September 18), where he took part in an international conference about the energetic and transport projects in South-Eastern Europe.. One of those companies is Behtel. American investors have also expressed interest in the building of cargo-terminals at port Varna, Bourgas, as well as in participating in the expansion of Sofia Airport. PA will sign this week a contract with the mediator Deutsche Bank for mediation at the sale of BTC, was meanwhile announced by sources from the working group on the deal. The representatives of Deutsche Bank will arrive on Monday.

The Executive Director of Varna port Mr. Stoyan Shtumph declared that the Ministry of Transport and Communications will receive a dividend in amount of BGN 1.2 million. The expected incomes for 2000 are in amount of BGN 32 470 000. Because of the considerable investments in the infrastructure the gross profit will be BGN 4.215 million. This is with 13 per cent more than the financial result in 1999 when it was BGN 880 000. About 30 companies are candidates for cocessions of the 35th quays in Varna port. By the summer of the next year will be finished the construction of quay for liquid chemicals in Varna-west port. The investor is Oiltanking, Germany and so far it has invested USD 10 million in the project.

A control system of the traffic is going to start at Varna seaside by March 2001. The project is consulted and partly financed by Holland. After the introduction of the system, the administration will be able to observe all parametres of the in-coming and out-going vessels from Varna bay. The data base includes the volume and the kind of the cargos, the direction of the ship, the number of its crew and the speed.

Between BGN 3 million and BGN 3.5 million is the expected gross profit of Varna port for 2000, was reported from the port. The port considerably increased their profits compared to the last year. The cargo turnover of the port raised with about 30 per cent in comparison with the last year. The only one negative side of the company is the double reduced quantities of grain that have been exported this year. The Management of the port considers that because of trade interests a part of the quantities are held in the State in order to be exported next year.
