The activity of the dockers and the mechanics in Varna Port will be separated in a company in accordance to the changes in the Sea Spaces, Internal Water Roads and Ports Law. The management of the port and the trade unions are discussing the details for the development of the new structure, announced the Executive Director of the port Mr. Danail Papazov. Between 5 and 10 per cent growth of the incomes is planned in the business programme for 2002.

In the Boards of Management of Navigation Maritime Bulgare, Varna Port and other transport companies in the city will be exchanged. The reason are the suspicions that members of the Boards have participated in deals which harmed the interest of the State. In the end of last year the Minister of Transport and Communications Mr. Plamen Petrov exchanged the Boards of Directors of the ports and the Airports in Varna and Bourgas.

Bulgarian State Railways has reported a loss of BGN 120 million as for 2001, show the data of the Ministry of Transport. The negative result of the company for 2000 was BGN 87 million. Airport Sofia has reported a profit in amount of BGN 11.8 million for the last year and BTC - a profit of BGN 180 million.

National company Ports will gather the port taxes and will manage the public state property on place of the former Executive Agency Port Administration. Since 2000 the taxes were gathered by the Agency which invested them in the ports. The incomes for 2000 were in amount of BGN 12 million. The new company which will be established with the changes in the Sea Spaces Law will be 100 per cent state property. The ports will remain operators whose property will be given under concession.

The Belgium producer of plain glass Glazerbel intends to make a large investment in Bulgaria, announced the member of the management of the company Mr. Luke Vilan after a meeting with the President of Bulgaria Mr. George Parvanov. The company for glass is the second biggest in Europe. Over the first month of the year Lesport port was visited by 12 trade ships with 2250 tons. There were processed 28 000 t general and loose cargos. Varna port takes the transit of rice to Romania and the supply of Bulgaria with this product after signing an annual frame contract for 100 000 t import of rice from China and Egypt. The price for the privatization of the Water Transport Institute is about BGN 300 000. The market value in amount of BGN 250 000 is added to the value of the assets - BGN 50 000 . Only few rooms from both floors of the building which is a property of the Institute is for rent. The amount of BGN 300 000 could not be paid by the employees of the company and there is no other applicant-purchasers of the Institute. In the company was established no MEBO. From 120 employees in the Institute have left only 20.

Nekton company won the auction for the construction of a wharf for grain which will be constructed in Varna-iztok port. Nekton will use the equipment of the Montana-based company Mir. The new wharf is necessary for the transport of the wheat from Hungary to the East. At the moment the Hungarian grain is transported mainly through the Rumanian port Konstanca. The change of the logistics through Bulgaria will give opportunities for raising of the profits of Bulgarian River Navigation, Bulgarian State Railroads, Varna Port. The construction of the wharf will cost about BGN 500 000.

Four terminals are planned for construction, according to the general plan of Port Varna SP JSC, was announced by the Executive Director of the state-owned company Mr. Danail Papazov. The nearest perspective for the terminal is for dangerous cargo, which will be zero wharf place at the Varna-West port.. The negotiations for its construction together with the two Devnya-based factories Agropolichim and Polimeri are in advanced stage. The fertilizer factory will invest more than USD 8 million. The construction of the wharf will cost to the port about BGN 1 million and will solve the problem with the loading of di-chlorine-ethane and ammonia.

We are ready to sell Varna Port, as long as we receive a fair compensation in return, stated Mr. Mitko Subev, Chairman of the Managing Board of Naftex, without announced the price he expected. He explained that the aim of Petrol is to develop its gas stations, and not to manage ports. We don't want it, it can be given under concession. We don't even insist to be concessionaires, added Mr. Subev. According to the management of Plama, it is illegal for a private company to own a port. According to Bulgaria's constitution, ports are state ownership. The lawyer of the petrol company Mr. Stoyan Krastev explained that there has never been privatization of Varna Port. It is a part of Petrol's assets. By buying the petrol company, we acquired the port as well, said Mr. Krustev. In 1999, 51 per cent of the capital of Petrol were sold for USD 52 million to International Consortium Bulgaria, consisting of Petrol Holding Group, Ucos Petroleum Bulgaria and OMV Bulgaria. In the following years, Ucos Petroleum Bulgaria was transformed into Naftex Bulgaria Holding and acquired the control over Petrol independently and through joint companies. Currently, the major stake of shares from the capital of Petrol (around 90 per cent) is held by Naftex Bulgaria Holding and companies connected with it.

Port Varna SP JSC is about to reach its 17-year top result in the end of 2002. The processed cargo is over 6 million tons. This was announced by the company's Executive Director Mr. Danail Papazaov yesterday. 4.1 million tons have been processed in the port since the beginning of the year. This is by 9.4 per cent more compared to the same period of last year.

The giving under concession of the port activities will start after the preparing of the economic analyses of the independent consultant companies, announced the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Mrs. Krasimira Martinova after the Meeting of the Council for Economic Growth of Wednesday. At the meeting were discussed the amendments in the Port Law. The auction for the election of the consultants will be opened by the end of the year. It is not decided yet which port will be given under concession, announced Mrs.Martinova. She explained that the procedure for the election of the consultants will postpone the giving under concession of the ports with at least an year.

Varna Port JSC expects a profit in amount of BGN 2.16 million, announced the Executive Director of the company Mr. Danail Papazov. The accountant value of the profit is with about BGN 1 million less as compared to 2001 because of the collapse of the currency ratio of USD. During 2002 through the company has passed the record amount of 6.5 million tons of cargo.
