A leading Chinese construction company signed a contract to expand the port of Varna China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), China's largest construction and machinery company, signed a EUR 120 mln deal with Logistics Center-Varna EAD for joint development of a new infrastructure in the port of Varna, the largest in Bulgaria. This is the first port project of the Chinese company in Bulgaria. CMEC, owned by the state-controlled China National Machinery Industry Corporation (Sinomach), will be responsible as the main contractor for project optimization, materials delivery, construction and installation. The total project duration is expected to be three years. This is the first port construction project, invested by a Chinese company in Bulgaria, and is a project for infrastructure and connectivity in Central and Eastern Europe at Beijing's initiative One Belt, One Road.

For the year the investments in Port Varna exceed 20 million leva Over 20 million leva are realized investments in Port Varna JSC in the last 12 months, the press service of the company, which on May 18 celebrated its 113 anniversary, announced. Investments in new equipment and renovation of the existing one are about BGN 16 million. The remaining funds have been spent on rehabilitation of the port infrastructure. Among the company's new acquisitions are two mobile port cranes, increasing the efficiency of handling all types of cargo. A number of port warehouse facilities have been renovated in the two terminals of the port. The repairs allow to increase the amount of stored goods, which increases the company's competitiveness. The port already has all the necessary permits under the new Community customs legislation. This will allow the management to work to develop the functioning container terminal and to attract project loads.

The project to deepen the port of Varna from the current 11.5 to 13.5 m is not being done in the private interest of Varna TPP, said Transport Minister. The project to deepen the entire territory, which covers the two bays - Varna and Beloslavsky, together with the canal over which Asparuhov Bridge is situated, will cost up to BGN 350 million, with money allocated from the budget. For the implementation of the project are planned BGN 200 million for this year, and next year another BGN 150 million. After the completion of the project ships with tonnage up to 60-70 thousand tons will be able to enter the port, while the current conditions allow vessels up to 30-35 thousand tons. There are about 17 ships in the area, although the place allows up to 100, and at the end of Beloslav Lake are the terminals of Devnya Cement, Solvay Sodi and Agropolychim, whose freight turnover is the main one.
