Four projects worth 7 million euros will develop the intermodal terminals of Varna and Burgas Four intermodal terminals are receiving nearly ˆ7 million in EU funding for their modernization. The approved projects are worth a total of ˆ17.6 million, over ˆ10 million of which will be provided by the companies. Three of the operators are private companies. One is owned by businesswoman Tsvetelina Borislavova, another by Vladimir Kyurkchiev, and the third is owned by the public company Industrial Holding. The fourth operator is the state-owned company Port of Varna. The approved projects provide for the purchase of equipment and modernization of the rail track of some of the ports. The financing is under the Transport Connectivity Program 2021 - 2027 under the procedure Support to Intermodal Operators, Including Development of Existing Terminals. The largest approved project for over 6.4 million euros is for the state-owned company Port of Varna EAD. Of these, over 2 million euros are European grants, and the rest are provided by the state. The funds will be used for the supply of equipment and rehabilitation of the railway for access to the Varna-West port terminal, which over the years has established itself as the "container gate of Bulgaria". The port is used mainly for grain cargo. The terminal also has universal ship berths for handling heavy and oversized cargo, including individual elements of wind turbines, transformers, pipes, specific single project cargo, is indicated on the company's website. Port Terminal "PCHMV-Varna" will purchase a new mobile crane for nearly 5 million euros, of which the European grant is slightly over 2 million euros. The terminal operator is the private company "Maintaining the cleanliness of sea waters" AD. Its actual owner is Vladimir Dimitrov Kyurkchiev. The company is engaged in maintaining the cleanliness of sea waters, port areas, cleaning up oil and oil product spills. PCHMV Port is located on the northern shore of the entrance to the Varna Lake channel. It handles general, bulk cargo and containers, has a terminal for base oils, as well as for receiving oil-water mixtures from ships. Over 4 million euros will be invested in the rehabilitation of the railway, the construction of a charging station and the modernization of the "Dolno Ezerovo" terminal in Burgas. The intermodal terminal is located 15 km from the port of Burgas and connects the Dolno Ezerovo railway station with the Plovdiv - Karnobat - Burgas highway. It is owned by the company "Despred" AD, whose actual owner is the banker Tsvetelina Borislavova. The terminal has a specialized container yard for storing 4,000 containers, as well as a mobile truck crane for handling cargo. The company is engaged in logistics and forwarding and offers transport to Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iran and the Middle East, as well as combined intermodal transport. The smallest project is the supply of equipment for about 1.7 million euros for "KRZ Port Burgas". The grant it will receive is 885,558.71 euros, which is half of the project's value. "KRZ Port Burgas" AD is a subsidiary, part of the portfolio of the public company "Industrial Holding Bulgaria" AD. It was established in 1974, as part of The former DSO "Fishery" with its main activity being ship repair services for the Bulgarian fishing fleet. Today, its activity is as a public transport port of regional importance and operator.
