Water supply companies report water losses Water supply companies in some municipalities report record water losses, reaching nearly 84%, according to data from the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works. The biggest losses were reported by Shumen Waterworks, where losses were 83.72% last year, at 82.12% in 2022, or that means 36.38 cubic meters per kilometer per day. More than 80 percent of the water losses are in the Pernik Waterworks and Sliven Waterworks. More than 78 percent of them reach VK Montana, about 72 percent are in Yambol, Haskovo, Targovishte, Sofia and Dobrich. For Sofia, water losses amount to 20.83 cubic meters per kilometer per day. Only five companies report that they lose less than half of the supplied water and these are Ruse, Smolyan, Kardzhali, Vidin and Blagoevgrad, where per day the leaks are less than 10 cubic meters per kilometer. For last year, compared to 2022, there is almost no change in reported water losses in individual companies, which means that losses on the water transmission network remain high.
